Descriptions

    

1911 Flood Display

Original 1911 flood photographs and sections off the broken dam.  The memorial wall consists of bricks with the names of the known flood victims engraved in them.  The large photo in the window is a view of Turner Street.

 

Austin Sports

This section of the museum includes pictures of Austin's first baseball team taken in 1889. Harlow Austin's baseball glove from 1904, and the 2005 game jersey of Austin's own Pittsburgh Pirate, Mark Corey.

 

Merchant and Health Care

A counter from Rosenbloom's Department Store of Main St. that survived the 1911 can be found in this part of the museum.  Other items include Ralph Hernquist's Drug Store clock and Dr. John Page's tools.

 

School Room

Here you'll find desks, blackboards, photos and books from the Austin Area, dating from the one room school period, to the present Austin Area School.

 

Domestic Display

Come and see just how your great grandmother cooked, cleaned and lived in bygone days.

 

E.O. Austin J.P. Office

A display of what E.O. Austin's J.P. Office might have looked like when he served as Pennsylvania's oldest Justice of the Peace.  His office walls display many photos of his family and his beloved Austin at it's peek industrial period.  This office also holds a collection of Pa. Senator Frank Baldwin's Law books.
